Paper Description
Paper Structure
This paper is taught using lectures, workshops and online tools. In the first part of the paper students will work in groups to develop project ideas making use of design journals, discussion forums and workshops. Each groups will identify, research and develop solutions to an engineering problem for which they will prepare draft designs for a range of options. In the second part of the paper, groups will develop a detailed design based on one of their proposals. The design will be presented in the final week of the semester, groups will also produce a poster display highlighting their design for the Engineering Design Show.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the paper should be able to:
Assessment
Students will work in groups however, they will be assessed on both individual and team work submitted. Students are required to identify individual contributions to group assignments. Students are also expected to contribute to group discussion forums. Individual marks for all assessments will account for how each group member is contributing to the team and on each design component.
Assessment Components
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 70:30. The final exam makes up 30% of the overall mark.
